Diving in Playa del Carmen can be completed by a few minutes boat ride.
​
Many tropical fish species make this sandy refuge their home. Playa reefs offers deep and shallow dives, but full of interesting life. There is also a great wreck, called Mama Viña, just a 20-minute boat ride south of Playa del Carmen.
​
Playa del Carmen is home to a variety of marine life from huge sharks to tiny macro critters. The major attraction in terms of wildlife are the female bull sharks that grace the area with their presence from November to March. There are also eagle rays, Loggerhead Turtles and Green Turtles to be found nearby. Occasionally, sailfish might be spotted at sites further from shore.
The healthy Playa del Carmen reefs also play host to a variety of tropical species. Vigilant divers may spot lobsters, groupers, eels, angelfish, stingrays, sergeant majors as well as hundreds of colorful fish.

An Educational dive
The Bull shark, a shark feared by many, but what many don’t understand about bull sharks is that humans are not natural features on their menu.
Dive tourism not only helps dispel shark myths, but also cultivates ocean conservationists and protection in international waters. Bull sharks have a bad reputation as being aggressive and unpredictable , the media reports in shark attacks on humans and movies haven’t helped these majestic animals, when in reality most shark attacks are actually “test bites” and a total accident or mistake.
Diving safely with them help us educate divers and people in general to understand the real nature of these beings and encourage everyone to pass on the word “Sharks are friends”.
Bull sharks are migratory sharks that prefer warm waters, they can live in fresh or salt water, and every year pregnant females migrate to Playa del Carmen, in the search of the fresh water exiting the Cenotes.
We receive them in Mexico from November to March each year. So if you are around for Bull shark season, get surrounded by our pregnant females in the open ocean at a depth of 24 meters, for an incredible experience, sharing the ocean waters, with these gentle beautiful ladies for a FINtastic time.

Bull shark Observation Dive
Join us for a Bull shark dive morning or afternoon, followed by a shallow reef dive (12 m) in one of our Playa reefs.

Thinks to take into consideration
​
- Strong currents are to be expected, and experience in drift diving is required.
​
- Please be advised that for safety and rules, kids under the age of 14 years are not allowed to do dive with the sharks.
​
- Diving with Nitrox will double the time with the sharks.
​
- Divers are expected to remain calm and follow all Bull shark diving rules.
​
- Bright color fins (yellow, red, white...) and short wetsuits are forbidden.
​
- Keep in mind sightings cannot be guaranteed, it is the ocean after all. If we are unlucky not see any sharks, the dive will be charged at full price.
NITROX Certification course
